We aim to keep costs lowKeeping costs low helps you keep more of your investments. The percentage of a fund’s assets used to pay the costs of running the fund is called the expense ratio.* Some funds cost significantly more to own than others. That can be true even when fund holdings are similar. Vanguard funds, on average, have an expense ratio less than one-fifth the industry average.** Use this tool to compare two funds and see how their costs could potentially erode returns. *The expense ratio is what you pay each year to cover the cost of running the fund. To calculate it, fund operating costs are divided by the total amount of money in the fund. The expense ratio is deducted from the fund’s return. You can find it in the current prospectus. With some funds, you may pay additional charges. **Vanguard funds had an average asset weighted expense ratio of 0.09% in 2021, compared to an industry average asset weighted expense ratio of 0.49%.
